Welcome letter

Hello, and welcome.

My name is Sergio Bernal, and I have spent more than 20 years working with children in different international projects.

Although I began my career teaching in secondary school, when I moved to London in 2005 I found myself, almost by chance, working in an early years children’s centre. And that changed my life! I completely fell in love with this field and since then I have dedicated my career to early childhood, deepening my understanding of child development and specialising in early language development through English immersion environments.

During my 12 years in London I had the opportunity to gain wonderful professional experiences and work alongside truly inspiring colleagues. It was there that the idea of Smiles first began to grow.

In 2017 I decided it was time to come back home and bring with me everything I had learned over those years. Soon after that, Smiles English Kids opened its doors in Barcelona as one of the first children’s centres in the area offering a full English immersion environment for young children.

Over time we realised that many families wanted their children to continue enjoying this experience as they grew older. Five years after opening our first centre, we were able to open a second space for children aged 3 to 6.

A dream come true. A project built with love and passion.

At Smiles we offer children a home away from home: a place where they feel loved and cared for, where they can make friends, explore, and discover the world through fun and enriching experiences.
